For my 2nd listening activity, I recorded native speakers describing their symptoms or illnesses.
Prelistening activity:
Before we listened, I showed the students various pictures of sick people and asked them
yes/no either/or questions about the pictures. For example, does he have a fever?
Listening Activity #1:
Then I played the audio. The students just listened.
Listening Activity #2:
I replayed the audio. The students received a paper with pictures of various illnesses on it
Each picture is labeled below with numbers 1-7. The students circled the number of the person who
said that he/she had that symptom.
Listening Activity #3:
The third time, I put up pictures of sick people with the same symptoms that were being
described by the speakers and the students had to guess which picture the speaker was
describing.
Speaking Activity:
After we debriefed, activities #2 and #3. I passed out a picture of a sick person to each student. The students had to pretend that they were the person in the picture and tell the class what symptoms they had.
